One job fair targeting female college graduate students has been held in Beijing. About 50 companies and institutions offer fill more than 600 job vacancies. Most of the positions are for secretaries, as well as for accounting, human resources and customer service staff. The recruiting site is not only crowded with female students, but also with some parents who are helping their child look for suitable vacancies. They are pretty anxious about the future job of their child. One mother can not help weeping. "She majors in design. But some software skills the recruiting companies require, she doesn't know at all. We are very worried about the situation now, because you know, we have been raising our child for more than 20 years." The mother says she has visited the booths of 50 companies and institutions on the site, but no one is suitable for her daughter's qualifications. The requirements by potential employers are strict. Some employers explain: "What college curriculums have given the students still falls short of what we require from our potential employees. They need to have more professional training." "We want our future staff to live not far from our company. As they are female, it would be dangerous to go back home at night if we need them to work overtime sometimes." Some companies say they will have several round of interviews for their potential employees. Private companies provide majority of the vacancies. According to a survey, for 2010 female college graduate students, private companies are their biggest employers. Among the female graduates who found work this year, 50 percent of them have signed labor contracts with private companies. According to the survey, many female students settled for work at private companies not because they like the job, but a reluctant choice. One young woman has this to say: "I wish to have a stable position. I prefer the state-owned institute. But some of them say they want to recruit male employees only." The survey says some industries and fields have indeed recruited more male students. For instance, in the field of Chemical Engineering & Pharmacy, the number of male students employed is greater than female students. Meanwhile, in the field of Electronic Information Engineering, male students earn about 560 yuan on average more than female students do. |
