首先有个简单的词：conclude. 我们平时经常用它来表示得出结论，而它也
有“结束”的意思：

    The Vancouver Olympics concluded on Sunday and it could not have been
a much better finish for host country Canada， which won the final gold
medal.温哥华冬奥会在周日落下帷幕，对于东道主加拿大来说，能获得最后一枚
金牌是一个再好不过的结局了。

    ？提起“结束”我们首先想到的肯定就是end 和close 了，而这两个词除了
直接做动词用，也可以作为名词组成词组：come to an end或者come to a close.
刚才我们说到一句“美好的事物都有终结的一天”，看看用这个词组怎么说呢：

    All good things come to an end and tomorrow will be no different.
美好的事物都有终结的一天，而明天也不例外。（因为亚运会要结束了啦~ ）

    The 8th global gathering of Nantah graduates which was attended by
600 people， came to a close on June 9. 有600 人参加的第8 届全球南大校
友联欢会已经在6 月9 日落幕了。

    ？中文里我们会用“落幕”一词来表达“结束”之意，英文里是否也如此呢？

    没错，英文里也是一样的哟：

    His admirers want to honor the singer before the final curtain falls
on his career.这位歌手的追随者们希望能在他的职业生涯落幕前向他表达敬意。

    The curtain falls on something，帷幕落下，就表示the end comes to something，
某事要结束了。也可以说the curtain comes down on something.

    另外大家应该知道，以前剧院在开幕和落幕时会进行打铃，于是英文里又有
了一个表达：ring the curtain down on something，意思就是bring something
to an end ，结束某事：

    It's time to ring the curtain down on our relationship. We have nothing
in common anymore.我们俩已经没有任何共同语言，该是时候结束这段关系了。

    同样，我们可以得出ring the curtain up 就是“开始某事”的意思：

    I am set to ring up the curtain on a new lifestyle. 我要开始一种新
的生活方式。
