  Part IV:
  1. Fish and chips has always been a favorite dish in Britain, but as the oceans have been overfished, fish has become more and more expensive. So it comes as a surprise to learn that giant fish are terrifying divers on North Sea oil rigs.
  2. Oil rigs have to be repaired frequently and divers, who often have to work in darkness a hundred feet under water, have been frightened out of their wits by giant fish bumping into them as they work. Now they have had special cages made to protect them from these monsters.
  3. The fish are not sharks or killer whales, but favorite eating varieties like cod and skate which grow to unusual sizes, sometimes as much as twelve feet in length.
  4. Three factors have caused these fish to grow so large: the warm water round the hot oil pipes under the sea; the plentiful supply of food thrown overboard by the crews on the rigs; the total absence of fishing boats around the oil rigs. As a result, the fish just eat and eat and grow and grow in the lovely warm water. Who eats who?

  Part VI:
  Dear Steve and Monica,
Thank you very much for the invitation to your wedding(婚礼). Unfortunately(不幸的是), I won’t be able to attend(参加).
The reason, I’m pleased to say, is that Wendy is pregnant(怀孕的) and the baby is due(到期) more or less(差不多)on the day of your wedding! Although she said it’d be all right for me to come over alone, I feel it’s the least I could do as husband, that is, to be by her side and to to take of care her after the baby arrives.
We’re both hoping it’ll be a girl and plan to name her Margaret, after her grandmother. But if it’s a boy, we plan to name him Fredrick. No particular(特定的)reason except that we both like the name.
Anyway, I would like to wish you both a long and happy life together and hope to come to see you as soon as Wendy is well enough.
Have a wonderful day and don’t forget to send us some photographs.
  Cheers for now,
  Ken and Wendy
