　　（香港）政制及内地事务局局长林瑞麟表示，在2017年香港特首实行普选时，选举委员会将转为提名委员会。
　　在上面的报道中，universal suffrage就是“普选，普选权”。所谓普选权就是指所有公民不受歧视性限制，平等享有选举权。Suffrage的意思是“选举权，投票权”。
　　“普选”也可以用general election来表示。但是，general election强调的是选举规模和范围，多译为“大选”，比如The United Kingdom general election of 2010（英国2010年大选）；而这里的universal suffrage则更加注重选举人权利的保障，强调的是选举权的普及。
　　在进行普选之前，通常会有一个primary election（初选）。初选之后，选民会在polling day（投票日）这天在各自的electoral district（选区）投票。当然，一个人也可以abstain from voting （投弃权票）。
