科学节预告/Science Fair Preview
一转眼,大半个学期就消失的无影无踪了。在我们努力学习之余,各项有趣的活动也在竞相展开。为了让同学们更好地融入美国校园生活并进一步熟悉美国的各项比赛,外教Mr. Jamis向学校提出申请,在一月份举办Science Fair、奥林匹克科学节和讲解自己喜爱的科学家的研究成果这一系列有趣的科学活动。Science Fair主要展示并讲解自己做的实验;奥林匹克科学节将会是一场精彩的科学竞技比赛;参加第三个活动的演讲者将会扮演并以自己喜爱的科学家的身份来分析“自己”的研究成果。让我们拭目以待吧!

In the twinkling of an eye, most of the semester has flown by us. When we study hard in school, all kinds of on-campus activities are also launched at the same time. In order to help us fit in American campus life, and become familiar with a traditional of American competition, Mr. Jamis asked the school to hold three interesting activities in January. These programs include the Science Fair, the Olympic Scientific Festival and an explanation of the research results of your favorite scientists. In the Science Fair, we will display the experiments that we completed in this semester; during the Olympic Scientific Festival, there will be a brilliant competition; and during the last activity, students will mimic their favorite scientists and describe “their” experiments to us. Let us wait and see in January!
翻译志愿者活动/Translation of volunteer activities
本周,翻译志愿者小组活动重新启动,小组成员们代表学校周末去美国大使馆做翻译志愿者工作。周三晚,学校对即将参加大使馆翻译活动项目的同学做了一次集体培训,本次培训由张皓校长主讲。参与培训的同学都拿到了本次活动需要介绍的几所的美国大学的资料,张校通过逐句中英互译的方法来考验同学们对翻译技巧的熟练程度,以及同学们对专业词汇的紧急应变能力。培训结束后,同学们都对语言的艺术感到奇妙和赞叹!周五,学校对翻译志愿者们进行了考试选拔,同学们都认真对待,积极配合!

This week, we reactivated our translation volunteer group. The members will be translating for a few famous U.S. universities in the American embassy this weekend. On Wednesday, our Principle, Mr. Larry, announced the students who will be the official interpreters. Each student has their own introduction for the colleges assigned to them. Mr. Larry made students translate English to Chinese in order to examine if the students can interpret in a correct way and show an ability to select specific nouns or not. Every interpreter realized how marvelous the art of language is. On Friday, we had a screening test to select the perfect candidates, and we all took it seriously and cooperated actively

物理实验课-自制冰淇淋/Physics experiment - The Making of Ice Cream
物理实验课一直是八年级同学最向往的,每次课程同学们都能通过简单的操作理解不简单的物理原理。本周四,八年级的同学们在Mr. Jamis带领下进行了一次“美味”实验,即自制冰淇淋。外教老师向同学们详细讲解了制作冰淇淋的程序和细节要求。同学们以奶油、炼乳、奥利奥饼干为原材料,饶有兴趣的开始了制作。首先,他们用打蛋器将稀奶油进行充分搅拌至粘稠状,加入炼乳并混合均匀。然后同学们用力将奥利奥饼干压碎,并将其加入奶油炼乳中再次混合均匀。最后放入冰箱冷冻。这个过程让同学们了解到物质形态的变化和相互作用。第二天,大家都迫不及待的打开冰箱,一个大大的惊喜迎面而来,一切都的超乎想象。同学们在一起愉快的分享自己劳动成果的,一股小小的成就感和喜悦也洋溢在大家开心的笑脸上,能看出来有多美味吧?
Physics is always the eighth graders’ favorite class. With each class they begin to understand new, abstract concepts through simple experiments. On Thursday’s Physical Science class, the Eighth Graders conducted a “delicious” experiment named “The Making of Ice Cream”. Mr. Warren taught the students about the procedures and specifics of how to produce ice cream. With whipping cream, condensed milk, Oreo Cookies as raw materials, the students took great enthusiasm to create their special piece of art step by step. Firstly, they used an electric mixer (generously and graciously provided by the benevolent and beautiful Mr. Kelsor) to thoroughly beat the whipping cream until it became as thick as possible. Secondly, a tube of condensed milk was added to the thick cream, and the mixture was completely beaten afterwards. Thirdly, the students crushed the Oreo cookies and added them to the mixture. Lastly, they put it into the freezer for deep freezing. On the following day, the students took great delight to open the freezer and got a big surprise, it was perfect, far beyond their expectation. Then they shared the ice cream together happily. And at the same time, a sense of accomplishment was created among them as well. Can you see how delicious it is?
