| Dream Vacation: Creative and fantastic Hawaii 软风热浪夏威夷 Hawaii夏威夷 Hawaii is the name used for this collective group of islands that lies a five and a half hour flight journey south west of America in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. With its multitude of cultures, activities and permanently good weather, Hawaii is the ideal holiday destination.  Oahu（瓦胡岛） One of the most popular islands is Oahu, also known as ‘The Gathering Place’, due to its diverse range of attractions including Waikiki Beach, Honolulu and Pearl Harbor. Honolulu is the biggest city in Hawaii and a focal point for Oahu as this is where the airport lies. Both Honolulu and Waikiki cater well for tourists, so do not be surprised by the urban freeways and high rise blocks that are located in this area. However, Honolulu also has several historical points of interest. There is the Lolani Palace which was built for the King and Queen in 1882 and Kawaiahao Church, the oldest on the island. As with most major cities, Honolulu（檀香山）has an authentic Chinatown with a large number of restaurants. There is also Oahu Market, which offers many delicacies, including Chinese ingredients so you can concoct your own dish. Not far from the hustle and bustle of downtown Honolulu lies the Watershed Forest Reserve, which enables hikers to explore the trails and admire the scenic views. But if you want to escape the outdoor heat, there are several museums such as the Bishop and Contemporary Museum and the Planetarium. There are plenty of beaches lining the coast of this island. Waikiki（威基基）is particularly famous and is a number-one tourist spot. Although you will be fighting for a patch on the sand and in the water at this commercialized resort, the clean and classy promenade full of exciting designer shops, bars and clubs will offer a buzz like nowhere else on the island. You can learn to surf, windsurf or even go sailing on a catamaran. And if you are still looking for entertainment, take a trip to the Waikiki Aquarium or the Zoo for maximum enjoyment. Sunset Beach is one of the top 3 surfing locations on the island. The famous 50ft high waves that break on the north shore are guaranteed to entice many accomplished surfers and eager onlookers. The waves are so impressive that the Triple Crown of Surfing contest is held here and is regarded as one of the most lucrative events of the year. However, not to let the large waves put you off, the surrounding Sunset Beach area offers good swimming and snorkeling, especially during the week when it is less busy. |
