希望大家在学习完之后，选一个或几个单词，通过跟帖的方式来造句子，进步就是这样积累出来了! Unfortunate developments in the medical profession 医生这一职业的不幸的发展 Medical doctors are, by tradition, expected to be incorruptible. I found it incredible, therefore, to learn of recent reports that suggest an inclination to ignore patients’ needs, in favour of kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies. It appears that some doctors are inclined to prescribe medications without regard to their benefit. Frankly, this is outrageous and utterly incompatible with professional ethics. I am just one of many people outside the medical profession who find such transgressions quite incomprehensible. Those individuals who are found guilty of unprofessional conduct most certainly incur the wrath of their patients, who react with incredulity to behaviour that is so outrageously incongruous with the standards expected of medical practitioners. Frankly, many patients are quite upset when they find progessional ethics to be inclined on a downward slope and their trusted doctors incriminated in conduct that in many cases no longer seems to be inclusive of ethics. A aleading social commertator recently asked the following incisive question, “is this kind of behaviour a sign of an incipient general malaise in modern society?” he came to thie conclusion:” whatever the answer to that question may be, it is inconceivable that this widespred incongruity should be ignored, it will be necessary not only to incorporate stricter penal provisions in the medical practitioners code of conduct, but to incise the cancerous growth on the body of the profession.” The responses from many of those concered have, to a large extent, been incoherent, and some of the evidence is still inconclusive. 传统的观点期望医生是廉洁的。因此，当我读到最近的报道说医生有忽视病人的需要的倾向，喜欢拿医药公司的回扣时，觉得难以置信。一些医生似乎倾向于不考虑病人的利益就给他们开药，担率地说，这是不可容忍的，并且完全不符合就业道德。 很多不是医生的人和我一样，认为这种违反道德的行为很令人费解。那些被发现有不符合职业道德的行为的人大多数情况下必然引起病人的愤怒，病人们不相信那些与医疗从业者应具备的标准极其不一致的行为。坦白地说，很多病人发生职业道德有走下坡路的倾向，以及他们信任的医生竟与不道德的行为—在很多情况下，这种行为似乎不再含有道德的概念—他们很苦恼。 一位著名的社会评论家最近问了以下尖锐的问题：“这种行为是不是现代社会刚开始的整体不安迹象的征兆？”他得出了这个结论：“无论这个问题的答案是什么，忽略这种普遍的不协调的现象是不能想像的。必须将更加严厉的处罚规定纳入医疗从业者的行为准则中，并且将该行为的癌变部位从其组织本身中切除。” 相关人士的反应在很大程度上是不清楚的，一些证据也还不是结论性的。 |
