| I got a great job offer. 现在就业市场竞争激烈，要找一份合适兼待遇优厚的工作一点也不容易。如果你很幸运觅得一份好工，你可高兴地告诉别人：I got a great job offer.（我获得一份很好的工作）。一份梦寐以求的工作可称为A dream job，难得的事业机会则叫A great career opportunity。 对话 Amy: You look pleased with yourself. Joe: I am. I got a great job offer and I'm very excited. Amy: Great! What did they offer you? Joe: Five hundred dollars to never set foot in their office again. The way I looked was turning their customers away. I could make a career out of this. 艾美:你看来得意洋洋。 乔:对呀，我获得一份很好的工作，非常兴奋。 艾美:很棒呀！待遇如何呢？ 乔:他们给我五百块叫我以后别在公司出现，我的样子吓跑了他们的顾客，我想我可以凭此道谋生。 艾美对乔说：You look pleased with yourself.（你看来得意洋洋）。乔解释说：I got a great job offer。 说人洋洋自得，英文有一句成语：as pleased as Punch。Punch是木偶趣剧Punch and Judy里的主角，常常和妻子朱迪打架，并常常自鸣得意。He appeared as pleased as Punch when he got the job即‘他获得那份工作，看来洋洋得意’。 A great job offer的offer是‘提出’、‘给予’的意思，I got a great job offer即‘我获得一份很好的工作’。薪金优厚的职位，英文叫做fat job或plum job，例如：His father has got him a fat/plum job in the government（他父亲帮他找到一份待遇优渥的政府工作）。工作轻松的职位，则叫cushy job，一般带贬意，例如：She has a cushy job, and spends much of her time in the office reading novels.（她的工作可轻松，经常在办公室里读小说）。 Job、post、position、office、career都可译做‘职业’，但含义有点不同。Office是指大机构或政府的高职，post、position一般是指白领或专业职位，job可泛指各种职位，而career则是长远的事业，例如：(1) The president came into office four years ago.（总统四年前就职）。(2) I would like to apply for the position of Advertising Manager.（我想申请广告经理一职）。(3) I hold a blue-collar/white collar job.（我担任蓝领/白领工作）。(4) He had a successful career as a teacher.（他长期从事教学，十分成功）。 |
