| He spends all his spare time at the computer surfing the net. Sibyl：My parents are getting quite worried about my younger brother. Helen：Why, is he ill or something? Sibyl：No, nothing like that. Helen：Well, what is it? Sibyl：He spends all his spare time at the computer surfing the net. He looks quite pale and unhealthy at times. Helen：What are they going to do about it? Sibyl：They want to make him join one of the local sports clubs and get some regular exercise. Helen：I hope they succeed, but I know how stubborn he can be. 西柏：我父母有点担心我弟弟 海伦：为什么？是他生病了，还是其它原因？ 西柏：不是，都不是。 海伦：那是为什么？ 西柏：他一有空，就坐在计算机面前，作网上漫游。他有时看来脸色苍白，很不健康。 海伦：你父母准备怎么办？ 西柏：他们希望弟弟参加本地一个运动俱乐部，定期做些运动。 海伦：希望他们成功吧，但我知道令弟有时很固执。 上一课的对话有I've been on my computer一语，今天的对话则有at the computer的说法。这at和on有什么分别？On有‘使用（机器、设备）’的意思，例如He is on the phone（他在打电话）、I accompanied her on the piano（我弹琴为她伴奏）。At则有‘在旁边’的意思，例如He sat at the desk（他坐在桌前）、She stood at the window waving at us（她站在窗前，向我们挥手）。所以，He is on the computer是说‘他在使用计算机’，He is at the computer则是说‘他坐在计算机前’。 网上漫游，英文叫net/Net/Internet surfing。Surf本是指‘做冲浪运动’，例如：They went to the bay to surf（他们去海湾冲浪）。引申其义，上互联网随意浏览不同网站，也可用surf来说，例如：(1) I surfed the net for information about AIDS（我上网漫游，搜寻艾滋病数据）。(2) Net surfing has become my number one hobby（网上漫游成为我最大的嗜好）。说到net surfing，不妨谈谈channel surfing。看电视，一会儿就转往另一频道，过一会儿再转，如是多次，叫做channel-surf，例如：(1) He channel-surfed the television to see if there is anything worth watching（他试看一下各电视台，看看有没有值得看的节目）。(2) He channel-surfed so as to watch two soccer games at the same time（他要同时观看两场足球比赛，所以不断转换频道）。 |
