China commemorates centenary of end to imperial rule
纪念辛亥革命100周年
BEIJING， Oct. 9 （Xinhua） -China held a grand ceremony to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the 1911 Revolution， which terminated 2，000 years of imperial rule， on Sunday morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
新华社消息，10月9日星期日上午，纪念辛亥革命100周年的仪式在北京人民大会堂隆重举行。发生于1911年的辛亥革命结束了中国两千多年的帝国主义统治。
The 1911 Revolution， or Xinhai Revolution， which began on Oct. 10， 1911 with an armed uprising， ended one of the longest autocratic rule in the world established by Emperor Qinshihuang in B.C.221 by toppling the Qing Dynasty （1644-1911） and resulting in a republican government， the first in Asia.
1911年10月10日的辛亥革命开始于武装起义，结束了自公元221年秦始皇建立的也是世界上时间最长的独裁统治，推翻了清朝（1644-1911）的统治，成立了亚洲第一个共和制政府。
Chinese president Hu Jintao and other leaders attended the ceremony. Hu gave a keynote speech.
中华人民共和国主席胡锦涛及其他领导人参加了此次纪念仪式，胡锦涛发表主题演讲。
The revolution not only rid Chinese men of humiliating ponytails and women of the excruciatingly painful foot-binding， but also removed the people's blind faith in the emperor， as well as the fear of foreign powers. The event has since been emancipating people's minds from thousands of years of oppression and self-enclosure.
辛亥革命不仅从外貌上让中国男人从此丢掉了屈辱的辫子头，让中国妇女从此摆脱痛苦“裹脚”的束缚，更重要的是，让中国人民从内心摆脱了对皇帝的盲目信仰和对外国势力的畏惧心理。自此，辛亥革命解放了中国人民压抑和封闭了几千年的思想。
President Hu speaks highly of 1911 Revolution
胡锦涛主席高度评价辛亥革命
The 1911 Revolution was "a thoroughly modern， national and democratic revolution" which had shook the world and ushered in unprecedented social changes in China， according to Chinese President Hu Jintao.
胡锦涛主席在演讲中说道：“辛亥革命是一次完全意义上的近代民族民主革命，震惊了世界，开启了中国进入前所未有的社会变革。”
The Revolution of 1911 overthrew the Qing Dynasty， ended the absolute monarchy that had ruled China for thousands of years， spread the ideas of democracy and republic， and brought about earthshaking social changes in modern China that had a profound impact， said Hu.
胡锦涛表示，辛亥革命推翻了清政府的统治，结束了统治中国几千年的君主专制，传播了民主共和的思想，为中国带来了翻天覆地的社会变革，给近代中国带来了深远的影响。
