BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Some U.S. lawmakers should stop disrupting the Beijing Olympic Games by using human rights issues, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said here Thursday.
Spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remarks responding to a question concerning a resolution introduced on Wednesday in the U.S. House of Representatives, which, citing the "Olympic traditions of freedom and openness", criticized China on human rights issues.
"The resolution was a groundless accusation, and was not only against the Olympic spirit but also against the wishes of people and athletes all around the world, including the United States," Liu said.
Liu added that China had made a stern representation to the United States. "We suggest some U.S. lawmakers immediately stop their wrong words and deeds aimed at disrupting the Beijing Olympic Games by using the human rights issue so as to avoid harming the healthy, stable development of China-U.S. relations," Liu said.
