黑利伯瑞国际学校致小学部家长的一封信

　　Dear parents and families,

　　亲爱的家长们：

　　Welcome back everybody from your week-long May holiday. I know everybody had a great time! Some students travelled, others enjoyed spending time with their families and friends, whilst many of our students enjoyed some downtime at home. Our teachers continually work, but they also managed to find time to relax and enjoy doing those things not possible during the school semester. It was a refreshing time for all. Everybody has returned excited, eager and enthused to complete the remainder of the school year. It will be a busy one, which includes many exciting planned whole school events. Stay tuned for more information about these.

　　五一长假结束，欢迎大家返校开启新的学习之旅。在七天小长假里，有的同学外出旅游，有的选择和家人朋友共度美好时光，还有很多“宅”在家中养精蓄锐，大家的假期充实而快乐。老师们在假期仍忙于工作，但他们也能忙里偷闲，享受下这难得的休闲时光。五一长假恰是养精蓄锐之时。而今返校，心潮澎湃，整装待发，共度本学年剩余光阴。后期将陆续着手规划全校活动相关事宜，亦是异常忙碌。有关详情敬请期待。

　　At the end of our last term we celebrated the ‘Reading Bug’ theme. During this theme, teachers encouraged and shared with their students their love for reading. Our students enjoyed learning more about English and Chinese literature. Reading is a very important skill to master in all cultures. Through reading, students learn more about their worlds: people, customs and histories. We learn in many ways, but reading and engaging within good literature is very important. During our last assembly we celebrated the ‘Reading Bug.’ Every student performed using English. Some of our most avid readers were rewarded with special awards. We also viewed a special video, which showed some of our parents reading with their children. Let’s continue to enjoy and share a love for reading.

　　上学期末，我校开展了“书虫”主题活动，通过老师鼓励指导，分享阅读心得，鼓励学生广泛阅读，激发阅读兴趣——学生们热衷于学习更多的英汉文学作品。阅读是得以精通各种文化的宝匙，通过阅读，学生们能够对这个世界产生更多的了解：人文、风俗、亦或历史。学习的方式多种多样，而阅读钻研优秀文学作品，是其中非常重要的一种。我校在上次集会中开展了“书虫”主题活动。每位学生都用英语进行了表演，其中最热衷阅读的小书迷还获得了特别奖。此外，我们也观看了一段特殊录像，其展现了我校家长和孩子共同阅读的情景。希冀我校保持良好阅读环境，营造热爱阅读氛围。

　　This week twenty-five of our students began their first round of the CCTV Star of Outlook English Competition. At the time of writing this bulletin I have no news on our students’ success. However, during the holidays and this week our competition entrants worked hard on perfecting their introductory speeches. The international teachers and Academic Support Specialists worked hard with individual students to critique and provide positive feedback on the students’ work. The students’ homeroom teachers also provided the students with time to practise and tinker with their speeches before the first round. We wish all our entrants the best of luck.

　　在本周，我校25名学生已开始了他们首轮中央电视台希望之星英语风采大赛。截止目前，我校还未获得相关学生晋级的消息。不过无论是在假期还是本周，小选手们都在努力完善其首轮演讲稿。国际教师以及相关老师也携手合作，给予学生指导，并积极提供相关反馈。首轮赛前，班主任们亦为参赛学生提供时间空间，助其演讲更臻完善。希望我校所有的参赛选手都能取得好成绩。

　　Preparations are now underway for our Children’s Day Carnival. Prior to the week-long May holiday, Primary Principal Zhang began discussions with parents about their needs and wants for these exciting carnivals during a Parent Teacher Advisory committee meeting. The Children’s Day Carnival will be celebrated on the 27th May. The exact details of these events are still being negotiated between Primary Leadership, staff and parents. As parents, if you would like to contribute your ideas to our discussions, please work through our Parent Teacher Advisory Committee. If you are not sure who to contact, please ask your child’s homeroom teacher.

　　儿童节嘉年华相关事宜正在紧锣密鼓筹备之中。五一长假之前，张校长已在家长教师咨询会上，与家长们就此激动人心的嘉年华的注意事项和需要事宜进行了商讨。儿童节嘉年华将在5月27日举行。小学部领导层、教职工和家长们尚在商讨活动具体细节。如果您也想为嘉年华活动提供意见建议，请联系我们的家长教师咨询委员会(可通过班主任获得具体联系人信息)。

　　Again, thank you for the wonderful contributions you make to our growing primary school. We received some positive feedback from you through our parent teacher meetings, which made us feel very proud and happy about the work we are doing with your children. We always have a lot of work to do, but with your help and support, we can continue to create and build a highly supportive and engaging learning community for your children.
