China's Ministry of Transport says it will boost investment in infrastructure projects such as highways and airports, so as to fuel the growth of related industries and create more jobs.
Experts say investing in infrastructure construction will favor the country's economic growth.

He Jianzhong, spokesperson of China's Ministry of Transport, says annual investment on transport fixed assets will remain at one trillion Yuan, or nearly 150 billion US dollars, in the coming two years.
He says the country will invest in the construction of rural roads, trans-provincial highways, as well as expand and transform main roads.
The planned highway network in China covers 85,000 kilometers. While 56 percent has been completed, 14 percent still under construction, the rest 30 percent is to be constructed. He Jianzhong says the unconstructed sections are mainly in the central and western regions.
"The funds will be largely allocated to central and western regions of China, because more bridges and tunnels are to be built in the construction of highways there, which will consume more steel and cement."
Many highways were seriously damaged by snowstorms earlier this year and the earthquake in May. Therefore, He Jianzhong says the country will allocate 6 billion Yuan to highway reconstruction.
Guan Changyu, vice president of the Transport Planning and Research Institute, says highway construction will boost domestic consumption of raw materials and generate new jobs.
"To build one kilometer of highway, 1,000 tons of steel and 9,000 tons of cement are needed. Therefore, the ongoing construction of the 12,000 kilometer highway will consume 12 million tons of steel and more than 100 million tons of cement. Meanwhile, with every 100 million Yuan invested in building roads, 1,800 jobs are created, and 2,100 more in related industries."
But Zhou Jingtong, a senior economist at the State Information Centre, says China's transport infrastructure still falls behind that of developed countries.
"In 2007, there was a 600-meter railway for every 10,000 people in our country, while the length is more than 5 kilometers in the United Sates and 2 kilometers in Japan."
Experts suggest that investing in infrastructure construction can stimulate a country's economic growth. Therefore, China should continue its efforts in this regard.
While increasing investment is given to highway construction, China's Civil Aviation Administration also says it will invest 30 billion Yuan in the construction and extension of airports this year.
It says China will build airline hubs in large cities such as Chengdu, Xi'an and Guangzhou, as well as over 40 regional airports in 2009.
