| I'm in a jam. 以前教过jamming session、jam歌，指‘即兴演奏’，jam也可指‘果酱’，今天的课程教另外一句话：I'm in a jam(我处于困境中)，这里的jam解释为 ‘困境’，或者也可用：I'm stuck(我被难住/卡住) 。 对 话 Brian: Buddy you've got to help me out. Marcus: What's the problem? Brian: I'm in a jam. I'm dating two girls and they both just walked in looking for me. Marcus: Sure, I can help you out of this sticky situation. Leave it to me. (Marcus goes over to both girls, chats and leaves with his arms around them) (Shouts) Problem solved my friend. 布莱恩：朋友，你得帮帮忙。 马克斯：什么事? 布莱恩：我有麻烦，我约了两个女生，她们一同来找我。 马克斯：没问题，我可以帮你解决这个难题，交给我去办 (马克斯走向她们倾谈，然后张开双臂抱着女伴) 朋友，问题解决了吧。 布莱恩对马克斯说：Buddy, you've got to help me out. I'm in a jam.（老兄，你得帮帮忙，我有困难）。Buddy由Brother（兄弟）一字演变而成，一般只用于口头，可用来称呼熟朋友或不相识的人，等于中文的‘老兄’，也可解作‘朋友’，例如：(1) Take care how you drive, buddy.（开车小心啊，老兄）。(2) Tom is a great buddy of mine.（汤姆是我的好朋友）。 Help someone out本是‘帮助某人走出’的意思，例如：He helped the one-legged old man out of the car.（他帮助独脚老人从汽车里走出来）。引伸其义，帮助人家解决困难，也可称为help out。Help out和单独的help一字意思没有什么分别，但语气比较随便，例如：Could you help (me) out with the housework?（=Could you help (me) with the housework?你可帮忙做些家务吗？） Jam是车辆等的拥塞，所以俚语以in a jam解作‘处于困境’，例如：He was in a jam with the internal revenue service, which suspected him of tax evasion.（他惹上了税务麻烦，当局怀疑他逃税）。帮助人家走出困境，可用help out二字：I helped her out of the jam by offering her money.（我给她钱，帮她解决了困难）。 说‘处于困境’的英文说法还有很多，常见的包括in the soup（在羹汤里）、in a pickle（在腌汁里）、in hot water（在热水里）、in a fix（进退维谷）、in deep shit（在粪堆里）等，例如：He was in hot water with the internal revenue service。 |
