矿难Coalmine Mishap
为认真贯彻落实党中央、国务院关于加强专四新闻词汇：矿难尾矿库安全生产工作的要求，深刻吸取山西襄汾“9.8”尾矿库特别重大溃坝事故教训，经国务院同意，国务院安全生产委员会从10月开始，将利用3个月的时间，在全国范围内开展一次尾矿库安全生产大检查。

Authorities will launch a three-month inspection on Oct 11 to prevent coalmine accidents nationwide， following a slew of fatalmining mishaps in the past months， the State Administration of Work Safety （SAWS） announced on its website.
在过去几个月重大矿库事故频发的情况下，国家安全生产监督管理局日前在其网站上表示要从10月11日起展开为期三个月的安全检查以防止更多煤矿事故的发生。
在上面的报道中，mishap就是an unfortunate accident/unforeseen happening，即“（意外）事故”的意思，coalmine mishap/accident 都是“煤矿事故”的意思，即“矿难”。那么accident跟mishap到底有什么区别呢？
我们常用的accident除了指an unexpected happening， often harmful， causing injury etc“意外事故”以外，还可以指anything that happens suddenly or by chance without an apparent cause“意外的、偶然的事”，比如：He met Tom in town by accident.（他在镇上跟汤姆偶遇）；而mishap则专指那些“不幸的、意外的事故”。
