(一) 重点词汇讲解
claim v.声称 [例句] They claim to have discovered a cure for the disease, but this had not yet been proved. [译文] 他们声称已经发现了治疗此病的一种药物,但此事尚未得到证实。 possess v.拥有；掌握 [例句] The police asked me if I possessed a gun. [译文] 警察问我是否拥有一支枪。 absolute adj.绝对的；确实的 [例句] That's absolute nonsense! [译文] 那纯粹是胡说八道！ talent n.才能 [例句] He has talent for drawing. [译文] 他有绘画的天赋。 apt to 易于 [例句] This kind of shoe is apt to slip on wet ground. [译文] 这种鞋湿地上容易打滑。 endure v.忍受；忍耐 [例句] They endured tremendous hardship on their journey to the south people. [译文] 在去南极的征途中他们忍受了极大的艰难困苦。 estimate n.估计；评价；判断 [例句] My estimate of the cost was about right. [译文] 我估计的费用大致正确。 perceive v.察觉；理解；看见；感觉 [例句] They perceived that they were unwelcome and left. [译文] 他们发觉自己不受欢迎，于是便走了。 superficial adj.肤浅的；表面的 [例句] She has a superficial knowledge of the language. [译文] 她对这种语言略知一二。 conceive v.构想；构思 [例句] Scientists first conceived the idea of the atomic bomb in the 1930s. [译文] 科学家在三十年代首次有了原子体的构想。 (二) 核心短语讲解 1. have the idea of 知道，有．．．．．．的想法。如：I have no idea of what to do next. 我不知道下一步要做什么。 2. prepare for 做准备。 如：We are preparing for the upcoming exam.我们正在为即将到来的考试做准备。 3. be able to 能够做某事。 意思相同的短语还有：the capable of. 4. as a mater of fact/in fact 事实上，实际上。 如：She doesn't like him much －in fact Ithink she hates him! 她不很喜欢他；事实上，我认为她恨他！ 5. according to 按照，根据，取决。 如：According to my watch it is 10 o'clock. 按我的表现在是10点钟。 6. be similar to 与．．．．．．相似。 意思相近的短语还有：be the same as 和．．．．．．一样。 如：My bag is the same as yours. 我的书包和你的是一样的。 7. take place 发生，举行。 注意区分place构成的如下几个短语：give place to为．．．．．．取代；让位于；in place在通常的位置，在适当的位置；in place of代替；out of place在错误的位置，在不适当的位置；take the place of代替，替代。如：A serious car accident took place in Chaoyang Street this noon.今天中午，朝阳大街发生了一起严重的交通事故。 8. be apt to 倾向于，易于。 意思相同的短语还有：be inclined to。 如：Most of the citizen are inclined to suport the Democrate Party.大多数的市民倾向于支持民主党。 9. at times有时，不时。 意思相近的还有：sometimes。注意如下一些带有time的短语；all the time始终，一直；from time to time有时，偶尔，时常；have no time for没时间做（某事）；in no time(at all)立即，赶快，马上；keep time（钟表）走得准；many a time常常，多次；on time准时，按时。 如：At times I feel that I want to quit this job.有时，我真的想辞了这份工作。 10. at last最后，终于。 意思相近的短语还有：in the end,finally。 如：I conquered my fear in the end. 我最终战胜了自己的恐惧. 11. in proportion to 依照比例，和．．．．．．成比例，与．．．．．．相比。 to也可以换成with。 如：Her legs are quite long in proportion to the size of the room.她的腿比起她身体的其他部位是长了点。 与之意思相反的短语是：out of proportion to,表示“与．．．．．．不成比例，与．．．．．．不相称”。 如：The fine was out of all proportion to the seriousness of the offence.罚金与所犯过失的严重性完全不相符。 |
