　　As is apparently showed in the chart above, the number of scientific breakthroughs over the past years in China has increased to 204 cases in the year of 2004, which is a shocking news to people both at home and abroad. People may wonder what is behind the great achievement.

　　The main reasons for this increase can be explained as follows. First, science and technology has become productivity. Over the years, more and more people realize that we are living in an era of knowledge explosion. If we want to survive and develop in the current world, we must keep pace with the development of science and technology. Thus, scientific breakthrough crop up by each passing day. Second, the Opening-up and Reform has also brought about the increase of scientific breakthroughs. It has improved the development of China’s economy, which has laid a solid foundation for the increase of scientific breakthroughs. In sum, both factors are the preconditions of the tremendous increase of scientific breakthroughs.
