International Students 留学生 Roughly 5 percent of undergraduates and 30 percent of graduate students come from outside the United States. The Bechtel International Center provides visa information and offers a variety of social, cultural and educational programs. Undergraduates International Applicants 本科留学生入学申请 International students have been an integral part of the university from its inception. Stanford is deeply committed to enrolling a student body that includes students from around the world. The interactions among students with different backgrounds and experiences create a dynamic environment in which to learn and live. Our admission process is thorough and carefully considers the backgrounds of our applicants and how they may impact and contribute to our campus. We do not have a separate application or application process for international students. Please review the information for Freshman Applicants and/or Transfer Applicants found on this website, as most of that information applies to international applicants as well, with few exceptions. Graduate students International Applicants 研究生入学申请 English Proficiency 英语熟练程度要求 International students enrolled at Stanford must be able to read English with ease, understand rapid idiomatic English as used in lectures and group discussions, and express thoughts quickly and clearly in spoken and written English. Admission is offered only to students who are fully prepared in English or who have advanced intermediate proficiency in English that could be raised to the required level by enrollment in a summer intensive English program. Students who hold teaching assistantships or who are enrolled in a Ph.D. program that has a teaching requirement will be evaluated in a separate test for oral communication in English. A special English course for teaching assistants is available for students who are found to need additional language training before beginning their teaching assignments. Visas for International Students 留学生签证 Students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents must have a visa status that allows study at Stanford University. The F-1 Student Visa is obtained with an I-20 Certificate of Eligibility which is issued by Stanford. The J-1 Exchange-Visitor visa is obtained with a DS-2019 which is issued by Stanford or a sponsoring U.S. agency. Certificates of eligibility are issued to international students who have accepted our offer of admission, met the English language proficiency requirement, and verified sufficient financial resources for at least one academic year. Students who are on visas must maintain continuous, full-time enrollment and are subject to U.S. immigration laws covering such items as employment on and off campus, change of degree, transfer of school, and extension of stay. Additional information on visas is sent to admit students. Contact Information 联系信息 During the admissions season (October through April) Graduate Admissions experiences a high volume of phone calls and email and may not be able to respond to your questions quickly. |
