Now, as yet another way to distinguish yourself and show off your hand-held jukebox, there are now more accessories to have a distinguished style. The influences of music are gradually bleeding into the fashion world. Clothing and accessories are continuously being influenced by celebrities and musical trends. Apple iPods are the new and growing trend among young adults everywhere and are becoming more fashionable every day. It's not unlikely to see college students listening to their favorite tunes on their portable device while riding the bus to Douglass, walking home from class or working out at the gym. These musical accessories have become a part of everyday life, and designers have taken full advantage of the craze. Louis Vuitton. Kate Spade. Coach. Christian Dior. Gucci. What do they all have in common? All of these major labels now make covers for iPods. "The fashion case phenomenon is impressive because it's truly grass-roots and didn't require any requests or effort from Apple," said Jeremy Horowitz, iPodLounge.com's editor in chief. "People loved the iPod and designed around it." The original mission of the iPod case was to protect these valuable music boxes from the wear and tear of being dropped or scratched. Now, new designer iPod cases range between $55 and $265. The ultimate iPod accessory is Fendi's Juke Box, a $1,500 carrying case for transporting multiple iPods. That's right: multiple iPods. The bag, unveiled by the Italian fashion house at a catwalk show in Milan, is a rectangular gilded purse about the size of a bread bin. It is lined with multicolored cloth and incorporates a pocket for holding up to a dozen iPods. Lest it seem like a joke, it is not. The purse is designed specifically as an iPod carrying case. There's even a hole on one side for the iPod's earpiece cable. "It was designed for the iPod," confirmed Fendi spokeswoman Ayana Lewis, who is based in New York. The bag is supposedly available at Fendi boutiques nationwide, although outlets in New York and Los Angeles have yet to receive a shipment, according to sales floor associates. The Juke Box was designed by German designer and iPod fanatic Karl Lagerfeld. It is based on Lagerfeld's own iPod carrying case, an antique leather case "monogrammed for some Jazz Age aristocrat," according to a description by Hamish Bowles, Vogue's European editor at large. |
