I've just had a manicure.
指甲护理是一门学问，所以有些爱美的女士会到美容院找专人修甲，如果你刚刚做完指甲护理，英文可以说：I've just had a manicure，指甲护理可改用pedicure。指甲护理除了修剪指甲外，也包括磨甲皮，指/趾甲根部的角皮叫cuticles，可用cuticle scissors（硬皮剪刀）来修剪；磨指甲可用emery board（指甲砂锉）或金属造的nail file（指甲锉刀）；指甲修剪好后，可涂上喜爱指甲油 (nail polish)。 对 话 Brian: Rita, can you help me move the sofa? Rita: Sorry, love to. The thing is, I've just had a manicure. Brian: Oh that's a shame. Why don't you go and cook dinner then? Rita: I can't, I've just had a manicure. I can't use my hands at all. The thing is是成语，常用来带出原因或问题，例如：I seldom shop here . The thing is, the prices are excessive.（我很少在这里买东西。他们售价过高）。 修剪以至涂染指甲(fingernail)、脚趾甲(toenail)、一叫manicure，一叫pedicure：拉丁文manus 指‘手’，ped指‘脚’，cura指‘护理’。读英文，常会看到拉丁文的痕迹。除了manicure和pedicure，manuscript（手稿）、pedestrian（行人）、cure（治疗）等都是例子。 Manicure、pedicure二字可作动词或名词，例如：(1) In addition to a manicure, she gave me a pedicure.（她除了为我修指甲，还修脚趾甲）。(2) Her hands are forever beautifully manicured, and her feet pedicured. （她的指甲、脚趾甲总是修得漂漂亮亮）。 修甲，可用指甲剪刀(nail scissors)、指甲钳(nail clipper)；讲究美观，则可用指甲锉(nail file)、指甲砂锉(emery board)。She never bothered to file her nails: she just clipped them.即‘她懒得用指甲锉，向来都是用指甲钳’。指甲油叫nail polish/varnish/enamel。She applied a clear nail polish with a brush. 即‘她用指甲刷涂上无色的指甲油’。 说到指甲，须认识的字还有cuticle，即指甲下方边缘的表皮，以及nail moon或lunula，即指甲下方的白色弧影。例如：Nail moons are said to be indicative of your health.（据说指甲上的白色弧影可显示健康状况）。 |
