(一) 重点词汇讲解
define v.下定义 [例句] some words are hard to define because they have many different uses. [译文] 有些词难以下定义,因为它们有许多不同的用法。 convey v.传达 [例句] Our government's anger was conveyed to their ambassador. [译文] 我国政府的愤慨已向他们的大使做了传达。 encompass v.包括 [例句] The course encompasses the whole of English literature since 1850. [译文] 这门课程包括了自从1850年以来的全部英国文学。 interact v.相互作用；相互影响 [例句] The two ideas interact. [译文] 这两种看法互相影响。 disruption n.破坏 [例句] The strike has caused widespread disruption of transport services. [译文] 罢工使交通运输陷入一片混乱。 (二) 核心短语讲解 1. or so大约。一般用在表示数量的词之后。如：We stayed for two hours or so.我们停留了两个小时左右。 2. as I know据我所知。常常用在句首，引出某人要说的话。 如：As I know,there will be a meeting this afternoon.据我所知，今天下午将会有一个会议。 3. last but not the least最后的但同样重要的。常常用在first,second最后等表示顺序的词之后。如：And last but not least there is the question of adequate funding.最后同样重要的是要有足够的资金的问题。 4. well-known 众所周知的，有名的，清楚明白的。 如：Mr.John is a well-known scientist.约翰先生是一位著名的科学家。 5. for instance 例如，比如。意思相同的短语还有for example。 6. be made up of 由．．．．．．组成。表示一个整体是由某些部分组成的。 如：Our class is made up of twenty boys and seventeen girls.我们班是由二十个男生和十七个女生组成的。 7. take steps to 采取措施（步骤）也可以把steps换成measures。 如：The official is taking measures to eliminate the water pollution.官员正在采取措施消除水污染。 8. wish sb. the best of luck祝某人好运。常被用在书信中，在书信的末尾表达自己对他人的美好祝愿。如：I wish you the best of luck in your exam! 我祝你考得好！ 9. be afraid恐怕，担心。该短语后面可以直接跟宾语从句，也可以跟of引导的介词短语，即be afraid of。 如：I am afraid of being late.我恐怕会迟到。 10. roll into滚进，卷成，使合为一体。如：Rocks were rolling down the hillside into the vally.石块沿着山坡滚进了山谷。 11. fall off下降，跌落，减少。如：He fell off the back of the horse.他从马背上摔了下来。 12. a multitude of 许多，大量。意思相同的还有：a lot of,a member of等。如：A multitude of building were set up recently in this community. 最近在这个社区里兴建了许多楼房。 13. billions of 数十亿的，数以亿计的。如：There are billions of the poor in the world.世界上有数十亿穷人。 14. show up出席，到场。意思相近的还有turn up，意思是“使呈现，使醒目”。如：Many TV stars show up in the evening party.许多电视明星出现在晚会中。 |
